Research meets Politics: What does Europe need to be competitive in Artificial Intelligence?

On Tuesday, 1 October, the Jacques Delors Centre and the French Embassy in Berlin are hosting a high-level discussion event on the topic of ‘How can Europe become competitive in artificial intelligence?’. On two panels, German and French experts from science and politics will discuss what steps the EU needs to take to become a global leader in AI and how the European market is prepared for new AI tools.

The program begins at 2:30 pm with opening remarks by:

  • Stefan Schnorr, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport
  • Philippe Aghion, Professor at the Collège de France

Following the keynotes, two insightful panel discussions will take place:

3 – 4:15pm: How can the EU become a global leader in AI innovation?

4:15 – 5:30pm: Is the European Single Market ready for AI?

  • Guillaume Avrin, Coordinator of France's AI Strategy

  • Franca Salis-Mandinier, National Secretary of the French Democratic Confederation of Labour (tbc)

The panels will be moderated by Silke Wettach, journalist and EU correspondent. The event will end with a reception at 17:30.

The event will be held in German, French and English with simultaneous translation and will also be broadcast online.
