The Barcamp Health-IT will take place for the 12th time this year. We would like to continue the exchange with you on innovative approaches in the field of health IT and this year we will focus on "Green technology and social sustainability".
Looking at the topic of sustainability, the health sector is in a multiple challenging situation: It has to deal with the effects of environmental pollution and climate change on the health of the population. These increase the burden of disease and also often exacerbate health inequalities resulting from social inequality (social gradient). At the same time, the health care system itself is a significant emitter of greenhouse gases and thus contributes directly to climate change.
So, on the one hand, we need to create products and solutions as well as define processes through which the ecological footprint of the healthcare system can be reduced. At the same time, we must increasingly develop strategies and solutions that keep people healthy in all social circumstances - also and especially in the context of the consequences of environmental pollution and climate change.
Approaches here are diverse and can be in the following areas, for example:
- Solutions for resource conservation in healthcare facilities (energy saving, waste reduction, logistics planning, etc.).
- Resource-saving production processes for pharmaceutical and medical products
- Technologies for adaptation to the consequences of climate change (e.g. measurement and monitoring of important health-related parameters)
- Technologies for more prevention in all social life situations, also and especially in the context of the challenge of environmental pollution and climate change (e.g. wearables, telemedicine, health education, etc.).
Let's discuss together new approaches and opportunities for more environmental and social sustainability in healthcare. Do you already have session ideas? Then feel free to contact us. We want to exchange interdisciplinary ideas and create cooperations. So mark the date in your calendar and bring your topics and projects!
